Almost every electronic device in industries such as medical, military aerospace, industrial controls, renewable energy, instrumentation and HVAC is powered by a battery or a DC power supply. Most of the equipment that is used in these industries requires highly filtered and regulated DC voltage.
The three varieties of electronic power supply used today; DC to DC Converters, AC to DC Power Supplies and DC to AC Inverters.
In each of the three varieties listed above provide the following functions; rectification, voltage transformation, filtering, regulation, isolation and protection to the equipment that they supply voltage to the product.
The typical power supply supplies a smooth and constant output voltage while dealing with changes in input voltages, load current or temperature changes in the environment at a high conversion efficiency.
DC to DC Converters has a higher efficiency and power density then that of the AC to DC power supply. They are widely used in distributed DC power typically at 5, 28 and 48 voltages. The DC to DC converters come in non-isolated topologies such as Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost and Cuk version and isolated versions forward, push-pull, full bridge and Flyback topologies.
