Precision's Software


Engineering programs like CAD software are faithful enough to real-world products that the results can act as input to finite element analysis (FEA) programs that allow virtual measurement of displacements, strains, and stresses under internal and external loads. Tell the FEA software what a part is made of and it can determine how much stress it can take before bending, breaking, or permanently deforming. And once a design is finalized in the CAD software, the resulting file can be used to develop tool paths for creation of parts using processes like CNC machining.


Precision is sensitive to Design For Manufacturability (DFM) but also interested in more than the physical shape and fit of components. We determine electromagnetic properties. For our customers, it is critical to minimize both the cost and time to build prototypes. We use Ansys Maxwell 3D software to simulate electromagnetic performance in much the same way that FEA software simulates physical performance. This lets our engineers see how a particular design will work before we even begin to build it. Like FEA, Ansys Maxwell 3D uses a CAD software model as input – Precision has selected Solidworks. Knowing the electrical properties of the components, the software predicts how the physical component will work in real-world operation. Those results can, in turn, be imported into a customer’s Simplorer software, which lets engineers simulate the performance of entire electronic systems.
